It’s been years since legendary singer Omara Portuondo last entered a recording studio. Once known as the “Queen of Feeling,” her voice was celebrated throughout Cuba—until she vanished from the spotlight. But when an ambitious young record producer brings her a rare opportunity, the elusive diva must finally reckon with her past.

Hailed as a "jaw-dropping, soul-stirring must see" (The Washington Post), the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club is a journey through music and memory into the beating heart of Havana. A world-class company brings the story of the iconic album to thrilling life in this tale of big dreams, second chances, and music that needs no translation.

More About Buena Vista Social Club

Here is why we at Broadway Inbound think it's a perfect show for groups:

Imagine stepping into the heat of a Havana night, where the aroma of Cuban cigars lingers in the air, and every street corner is alive with excitement. Buena Vista Social Club offers a dive into the electrifying rhythms and rich culture of Havana. Set in a time when the pulsating sounds of Afro-Cuban music fueled the nights, this Broadway experience combines a live performance with the legendary tunes from the Grammy® Award-winning album.

This show is a journey through time, bringing audiences from the bustling 1950s streets of Havana to the transformative 1990s. The story dives into the lives of four talented musicians whose paths were turned upside down during the communist shift. Despite all the twists and turns of the Cuban Revolution, they never let go of their love for music. The musical captures their journey, ending with their game-changing album collaboration in 1997. Although the story is told in English, the music, entirely in Spanish, showcases the rich genres of Son, Danzón, and Bolero. Don't worry if your Spanish is a bit rusty—the infectious rhythms and soulful melodies speak louder than words. This authentic musical score not only pays homage to the original album but also provides a heartfelt narrative about resilience and cultural identity. So whether or not you’re fluent in Spanish, the universal language of music in Buena Vista Social Club transcends barriers, inviting everyone to celebrate the enduring spirit of these legendary musicians.
