Here is why we at Broadway Inbound think it's a perfect show for groups:
The Outsiders does an exceptional job of adapting S.E. Hinton's classic novel for the Broadway stage. Preserving the original's spirit while also breathing new life into the story through the transformative power of musical theatre is a delicate balance to strike. The show does this brilliantly. The essence of Hinton's narrative - the struggle for acceptance, the stark class divisions, the bonds of brotherhood, and the raw, youthful emotion - remains firmly intact. Incorporating songs brings an extra layer to the narrative, allowing a deeper connection with the characters' feelings.
Under Danya Taymor's direction, this beloved story takes on a fresh and exciting form. Under her direction, the cast, led by Brody Grant and Sky Lakota-Lynch in the roles of Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade, brings a raw and authentic energy to the stage. Every character is unique, with the actors adding a personal spin to the story while still honoring Hinton's original concept. The bond between the actors, especially those playing the Greasers, is quite strong, with the boys becoming close off stage as life imitates art.
The Outsiders is more than just a musical remake. Paying its respects to both the classic novel and movie, the show highlights the struggles of youth and the search for identity. For those who enjoyed reading the book as a teen, watching the iconic film, or those who are just interested in a fun night of theatre, The Outsiders is a must-see show.
