After More Than a Century, The Met Will Stage Opera Composed by a Woman
Bartlett Sher will stage a new production of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and Julie Taymor will recreate her staging of The Magic Flute as part of the Metropolitan Opera's 2016-17 season—its 50th at Lincoln Center. Also planned is L’Amour de Loin, the first work composed by a woman to be staged at The Met since 1903.
