Clue is a farce-meets-murder mystery. In the story, six guests with aliases—Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, and Miss Scarlet—arrive at Boddy Manor for a dinner party hosted by a mysterious man named Mr. Boddy.
The story takes place in 1954, on a dark and stormy night, at the remote Boddy Manor near Washington, D.C.. The butler, Wadsworth, welcomes six guests to an unusual dinner party.During dinner, the guests learn that they are all victims of blackmail by their host, Mr. Boddy. Wadsworth explains that they have been gathered to confront and expose Mr. Boddy. When Mr. Boddy finally arrives, he turns the tables by handing each guest a weapon and suggesting that one of them kill Wadsworth to be free of blackmail.
The lights go out, and when they come back on, Mr. Boddy is dead, killed by an anonymous assailant. The evening quickly spirals into chaos as the body count grows, with victims including the cook, the motorist, the cop, and the maid, Yvette. As the guests and Wadsworth frantically search for the killer, they race through the manor's rooms, collecting clues and discovering hidden passages.
