After a sold-out and critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run, the new musical Dear Evan Hansen began previews on Broadway on November 14, 2016. The musical features a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight) and a book by Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex). The musical is directed by three-time Tony nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then), with an opening night set for December 4, 2016.
Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect) received rave reviews for his performance as Evan Hansen Off-Broadway, and he is back for the Broadway engagement. He is joined by Laura Dreyfuss, Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Mike Faist, Michael Park, Will Roland, and Kristolyn Lloyd. Off-Broadway, the musical won the "Best Musical" award from the Obie Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Helen Hayes Awards.
In an exciting new statement, producers announced that "viewers can follow the behind-the-scenes action on the show’s official Periscope and Twitter channels, @DearEvanHansen, to see pre-show activity and interviews with the creative team, along with the premiere of the show’s new music video of “Only Us” (broadcast live at the exact time the song is being performed on stage), curtain call activity, and a special stage door moment with the cast following the show. This is the first time a Broadway show will be able to grant this access to viewers around the world."
