Video: Clive Owen Introduces M. Butterfly

Video

M. Butterfly, one of Broadway’s most acclaimed and beloved plays returns in a viscerally theatrical new production directed by Julie Taymor, the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning director of The Lion King, and starring Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Clive Owen. M. Butterfly charts the scandalous romance between a married French diplomat and a mysterious Chinese opera singer – a remarkable love story of international espionage and betrayal. Their 20-year relationship pushed and blurred the boundaries between male and female, east and west – while redefining the nature of love and the devastating cost of deceit.

In the video below, watch as the star, playwright, and director of this new production speak about what M. Butterfly means today. "I've read the play now so many times, and it's still revealing itself to me," says Clive Owen. This lush and enigmatic production begins on October 7, 2017.
