Broadway Inbound Gets A Sneak Peek Of Jagged Little Pill

Broadway Inbound

Working at Broadway Inbound means a lot of awesome opportunities to see behind the scenes of all things Broadway, but listening to Alanis Morissette talk about Jagged Little Pill—the original album and the upcoming musical it inspired—has to be one of the best. Recently, we were invited to meet the show’s creative team and hear the cast perform.

If you’re a fan of the album, don’t worry; so is everyone working on this show. From director Diane Paulus (Waitress) to choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, to the producers behind it all, everyone just wants to do justice to an album that they connected with years ago.

And still has something to offer today.

Both Paulus and Morissette emphasize that neither of them wanted to bring Jagged Little Pill to Broadway unless they found a story that offered something other than nostalgia. Something vital.

Luckily for us, book writer Diablo Cody (Juno) found it. The music has been rearranged by Tom Kitt (SpongeBob SquarePants) and reimagined for multiple voices, telling the story of a family whose picture-perfect life begins to crack.

If anyone had any remaining doubts that Jagged Little Pill could live up to the album that inspired it, they disappeared when the cast began singing. The show includes Morissette’s biggest hits, like “All I Really Want” and “You Learn,” but there are also a couple of new numbers written specifically for the show, like “Smiling.” The cast knocked all of them out of the park.

Jagged Little Pill doesn’t start performances until November 3, but you can book your tickets now—and believe us, you’re not going to want to miss this!
