Based on the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, the new Broadway musical, Waitress, has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer songwriter Sara Bareilles and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus.
Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker, is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must weigh her commitments against a rare shot at freedom and recognition. Her customers, co-workers, and the town’s handsome new doctor all offer her conflicting recipes for happiness – but Jenna must ultimately decide for herself.
We are a group of women who are Broadway bound once a year. This was our 25th trip and everyone loved Waitress! It was the perfect mix of humor and drama. Sara Bareilles' music was amazing and everyone left smiling!
Seeing Waitress was incredibly special for our group of tweens/teens. They were so inspired, from the moment you walk in and smell the pies to the moment the curtain falls. I recommend this production for teens in particular because of its modern edge and its ability to motivate the young theatre-goer. It was expertly cast and the choreography and comedic timing were brilliant.

This was such a remarkable show. It's as sweet and charming as a slice of homemade pie. The music is infectious, and it has a great cast!
