Dear Evan Hansen is the deeply personal and powerful story of Evan Hansen, a shy teenager in suburban America, grappling with an unthinkable tragedy and how it revealed the best and worst of human nature. Evan is a high school student overwhelmed by his bright, shiny peers and his own insecurities. He’s been invisible to the world, considered a social outcast by his classmates and painfully lonely. He writes a letter to himself, as a way to sort through his emotions and struggles. But now, he’s forced to confront how that letter, which he never intended to send, has changed his life forever.
