School of Rock, Broadway's most rocking musical, celebrated its first anniversary on the Great White Way this Tuesday, December 6, 2016. To mark the occasion, the production released a documentary chronicling the musical's road to Broadway. According to press notes, the film was created by Jordan Axelrod, an NYU film student "embedded with School of Rock from the beginning, shooting and creating digital content along the way."
The musical is based on the smash hit 2003 movie starring Jack Black. The musical follows Dewey Finn, "a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within."
