Each and every group is unique. Whether you've got a birthday coming up or are planning a family reunion, each group has its own specific wants and needs when it comes to picking the perfect Broadway show. Fortunately, no one knows Broadway better than our staff at Broadway Inbound. We're lucky enough to see almost every show that opens on Broadway, which makes every staff member on our team a bona fide theatre expert.
There's nothing we love more than talking about our favorite shows, so we've assembled a list of some of our current Staff Picks. This month, we're giving you some of the shows coming up in 2019 that we're most looking forward to.
Ashlyn’s Pick: Kiss Me Kate
Ashlyn Recommends: This musical stunner is coming back to Broadway, and I couldn’t be more excited! A mix of romance, comedy, and a splash of Shakespeare, it’s no wonder Kiss Me Kate was the winner of the first-ever Tony Award® for Best Musical. Kelli O’Hara won me over in The King and I, and I look forward to her excelling in this role.
Perfect For: This show is perfect who those who want a classic show with dashes of humor, heart, and an excellent score
Kiss Me Kate in Three Words: Classic. Masterpiece. Romantic.
Meet Ashlyn: Ashlyn’s first Broadway show was Chicago. The shining spotlights, detailed lace dresses cut short at the hem, and expertly choreographed dance sequences left her dazzled. Raised in upstate New York, trips to NYC were a common occurrence in Ashlyn’s family. The hustle and bustle of the city, the flashing billboards in the heart of Times Square, and the sense of following your dreams left her knowing that one day she would live and work in this fascinating city.

Christine’s Pick: King Lear
Christine Recommends: King Lear has always been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays and after seeing Glenda Jackson last year in Three Tall Women, I cannot wait to see her tackle this part. She’s a force to be reckoned with on stage and King Lear is such an incredible vehicle for an actor – I’m so excited to see what she does with it!
Perfect For: Anyone who loves Shakespeare—and especially students.
King Lear in Three Words: Dark. Stirring. Heartbreaking.
Meet Christine: Christine’s been involved in theater ever since seeing a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a kid. She grew up taking the bus into the city to see shows and working on them whenever possible. “It doesn’t really matter to me whether it’s a musical or a straight play, classical or contemporary—I just love good stories.”

Mary’s Pick: Be More Chill
Mary Recommends: I recommend Be More Chill because it is the epitome of the modern musical. Young people have voiced their enthusiasm for the show’s themes of wanting to fit in and learning to love yourself on social media, which led to the show’s transfer to Broadway. It captures the awkwardness of high school in both a realistic and theatrical manner.
Perfect For: It’s a hit with teens and young adults, though anyone who’s ever felt out of place (all of us) can certainly relate!
Be More Chill in Three Words: Relevant. Contemporary. Fun.
Meet Mary: Mary’s introduction to theatre was The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center. She loved seeing children up on the stage, and she wanted to be there too. She especially loved the musical numbers and the idea of telling a story through song. As she grew up, she started seeing plays, and she fell in love with those too. Now, Mary loves a little bit of everything, and probably sees more theatre than anyone in our office!
