This summer, nearly seven miles of New York City’s streets are open to the public to play, run, walk and bike. This special event happens on three Saturdays this month, including August 5, 12, and 19, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. All activities at Summer Streets are free of charge, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels. With easy access from all points in New York City, participants can plan a trip as long or short as they wish. It’s also a great way to incorporate a Broadway experience into your day!
The Uptown Rest Stop, located between 50th and 53rd street, is a must for those catching a show later in the day. You can visit the Performance Stage, which will have a diverse spread of musical, theatrical and dance performances. Also at this rest stop is the Arts and Cultural Hub, which allows guests to visit with some of the city’s most coveted cultural institutions, learn about their exciting offerings, and create a craft to take home with you.
Head just a few blocks from this rest stop, and you’ll find a plethora of Broadway shows. Groundhog Day and Miss Saigon are located on 53rd Street. You can find Cats on 52nd Street, and Wicked on 51st Street.
Head down to the Astor Place Rest Stop (on Lafayette street) and channel your inner rock climber with a 360 degree Mt. Everest VR experience, or have some casual fun at a New York-centric mini golf course. The Astor Place Theater is right around the corner, where you can treat yourself to a dazzling show by the Blue Man Group. Blue Man Group is best known for their wildly popular theatrical shows and concerts which combine music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to produce a totally unique form of entertainment, a guaranteed delight to audience members of all ages. Head over to 2nd avenue and St Marks Place to the Orpheum Theatre for a high-energy show unlike any other by Stomp.
