Host Your Own Tony’s Viewing Party

Broadway Inbound

Broadway’s biggest night is here! While most of us can only dream of going to the Tony Awards®, you can have your own fabulous viewing party right at home! With a little DIY magic, here’s how you can transform your living room into your own black tie affair…

Décor and Entertainment

Make your guests feel like they’re walking off the red carpet. We chose a gold/black/silver color palette because it felt glamorous to us, but go with what speaks to you! We didn’t want it to be too matchy-matchy, so we stuck with those colors but went with different patterns for our balloons, plates, silver(gold)ware, cups and napkins.

For music, we pulled out our retro record player, which we used to play tunes by The Temptations in honor of Ain’t Too Proud’s 12 nominations. To keep things interesting, print out ballots for your guests (you can find them here) and keep track of the night’s winners!

Food

Plan your menu in advance, so you’re not rushing to get everything finished right before party time. No one’s saying you have to theme your dishes after the nominees (like we did), but it makes for a fun party!

We love a good pun, and we love mac and cheese. Therefore, it only made sense for us to honor The Cher Show’s legendary costume designer Bob Mackie with our Bob Mackie Cheese. Haha, get it? We crack ourselves up. The only bummer was that we couldn’t find edible sequins, but we think this dish will still be a hit.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic Greek tales, so we felt it was fitting to serve up a yummy Greek spread we called Persephone’s Platter. It’s completely customizable, vegetarian-friendly, and perfect for guests to nibble! We’re fans of stuffed grape leaves and olives, but live your best life and pick out an assortment that pleases you.

Beetlejuice puts a hilarious spin on death, and we wanted to put a delicious spin on it! This Death by Chocolate Cake is really just a simple cake, but the decorations are what put it over the top. We covered the cake with green sprinkles (our graveyard grass) and dug a little grave for the ghost with the most (don’t worry, we ate that piece…nothing going to waste here!) We finished it off with miniature tombstones, zombie hands, and gummy worms.

Other tasty offerings included More Than OK Chili (Oklahoma), Fondue Darn Hot (Kiss Me, Kate!), Banana Pudding Fit For A King (King Kong), Don’t Call Me Tootsie (Tootsie) and Prom Queen Rainbow Cupcakes (The Prom).

Drinks

You don’t want your guests to be parched, do you? We had a little bubbly of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety, but we couldn’t resist coming up with specialty drinks for two of the nominated shows.

Scout’s Sweet Tea (To Kill a Mockingbird) was a tribute to the sweet iced tea the south is famous for, and instead of watering it down with ice cubes, we added frozen blackberries to keep the drink perfectly chilled. Our Bryan Crantini (Network) takes the martini and gives it a twist with a little cranberry juice and raspberries as garnish in place of olives.
