In reaching more than 1,793 performances, at the May 21 performance, the Tony Award-winning Broadway play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child surpassed 1978’s Deathtrap to become the fifth-longest-running play in Broadway history.
The other longest-running Broadway plays include 1977’s Gemini (#4), 1922’s Abie's Irish Rose (#3), 1933’s Tobacco Road (#2) and 1939’s Life with Father (#1). Harry Potter and the Cursed Child began previews on March 16, 2018, and opened on April 18 at Broadway’s Lyric Theatre, where it currently runs.
Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play by Thorne, directed by Tiffany.
