The Premieres Taking Center Stage
Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth returns to the Broadway stage in a musical for the first time in over a decade. The feisty soprano reunites with her Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz for the opulent new musical The Queen of Versailles. Based on the 2012 documentary of the same name, the show follows Jackie Siegel (Chenoweth) and her real estate mogul husband David Siegel (played by F. Murray Abraham) as they begin to build the largest single-family home in America. When the subprime mortgage crisis hits in 2008, they’re forced to halt construction on the $100 million mansion. The musical explores themes of fame, fortune, family, excess, and the American dream. Expect a few high notes as the economy collapses.
After two seasons delighting audiences on Apple TV+, Schmigadoon! is trading the screen for the stage with a musical adaptation of its first season. In the show, two married New York City doctors stumble upon a magical town and find themselves trapped in a Golden Age musical, where they must navigate a world of song and dance to find true love to make it back home. The show, which lovingly pokes fun at the Broadway musicals of yesteryear, features a book, music, and lyrics by Cinco Paul. This marks the Broadway debut for the prolific screenwriter (Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, written with Ken Daurio). Tony winner Christopher Gatelli will direct and choreograph. Expect a whole lot of heart and a heaping helping of corn puddin’.

The Revivals Stepping Back Into the Spotlight
Following an acclaimed (and sold-out) run last spring at Perelman Performing Arts Center, Cats: The Jellicle Ball is moving uptown to Broadway this season. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1982, gets a high-glam makeover, moving the tribe of Jellicle cats from the junkyard to the New York City LGBTQ+ ballroom scene. Skimbleshanks, Rum Tum Tugger, and Grizabella hit the catwalk to the same Tony-winning score (T.S. Eliot lyrics and Andrew Lloyd Webber tunes), now remixed with dance music beats, all in the competition for a glittering afterlife. Expect nine lives and tens across the board.
This spring, Studio 54 spins into a Time Warp as The Rocky Horror Show jumps (to the left!) onto the stage. The musical only ran for one month when it opened on Broadway in 1975 (after a more successful 1973 West End debut), but its film adaptation gained cult classic status when a downtown NYC theatre started running midnight showings in 1976. Welsh heartthrob and action film star Luke Evans will step into the spiked heels of Dr. Frank-N-Furter for the outrageous sci-fi B-movie send-up. Sam Pinkleton, fresh off a Tony win for Oh, Mary!, will direct. Expect a lot of camp and a little audience participation.
