Back where they belong. Bette Midler. Hello, Dolly!
Michael Stewart’s (book) and Jerry Herman’s (music and lyrics) masterpiece, Hello, Dolly!, returns to Broadway starring none other than Bette Midler. Directed by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks, Hello, Dolly! is now in performances at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). This production, the first new production of Hello, Dolly! to appear on Broadway since it opened more than fifty years ago, pays tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion, which has been hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history.
The role of Dolly Levi will be played by Donna Murphy at select performances beginning June 13, 2017. This includes all Tuesday performances, as well as June 27–July 2, July 5–9, July 30 evening, September 6–10, October 15 evening, October 30, November 1–5, November 24 matinee, and January 7 evening. True razzle and dazzle are back on Broadway. The entire cast is phenomenal and there are not enough words to describe the experience of seeing Bette Midler as Dolly Levi. This is a role that is meant to be hers. Some people will wish they had seen her, and some people will say, "I was there!"
Our group thought the show was amazing. Our group was diverse in age and also in experience with having seen or heard Hello, Dolly! before. It's sure a treat for all. The production values are top rate. A true Broadway experience, and the cast was stellar.
I see a lot of theatre, and this show was one of my all-time favorites. Bette Midler gives a performance for the ages. The costumes, the choreography, and the performances are uniformly excellent. When you leave the theatre, you'll be smiling for days to come!
