Staff Picks: Asking Our Friends Overseas

Broadway Inbound

Each and every group is unique. Whether you're coming with a group of Girl Scouts or celebrating your mom's 70th birthday, each group has its own specific wants and needs when it comes to picking the perfect Broadway show. Fortunately, no one knows Broadway better than our staff at Broadway Inbound. We're lucky enough to see almost every show that opens on Broadway, which makes every staff member on our team a bona fide theatre expert.

There's nothing we love more than talking about our favorite shows, so we've assembled a list of some of our current Staff Picks. This month, we asked our international reps which show's they loved. Read the picks below, and stay tuned for even more Staff Picks this summer.

Alex’s Pick: Chicago

Alex Recommends: Go and see Chicago! This musical is so funny and clever, and it manages to be spectacular without using any spectacular show effects. Just incredible Fosse choreography, some of the best music on Broadway, and the most talented performers. It shows that a musical can be convincing by its basics – it’s incredible that this still works, after more than 20 years!

Perfect For: Everyone who wants to see a deep, rough story but still wants to laugh. It takes a special talent to tell the story of two women in prison accused of murder and make it funny.

Chicago in Three Words: Funny. Smart. Dazzling.

Meet Alex: Alex is a Broadway Inbound rep from Munich, Germany, and this was her first visit to New York and she loved it! “It’s like you’re never alone. Wherever you are, wherever you go, you’re always guided by the lights of the city, by the people who are always there and are so kind. Munich goes to sleep much earlier.”

Sunny’s Pick: Hello, Dolly!

Sunny Recommends:
I highly recommend Hello, Dolly!  I've never seen a musical with such continuous applause and whoops coming from the audience. Bernadette Peters is so charming. I loved her voice and humor.  The dancing, music, costumes and scenery were great.  I just loved everything about this musical!

Perfect For: Audiences of all ages—especially those with a certain knowledge of the English language.

Hello, Dolly!  in Three Words: Humor. Beyond-Expectations. Positive.

Meet Sunny: Sunny is one of Broadway Inbound’s representatives in China, and this was her first trip to New York. She says seeing a Broadway show “is the most exciting thing in NYC.” She looks forward to seeing more shows—and to seeing more Asian faces on stage!

Courtney’s Pick: Dear Evan Hansen

Courtney Recommends: Dear Evan Hansen. It’s theatre at its best – from start to finish I couldn’t look away and left the theatre wanting to see it again. It’s the kind of show that stays with you long after the curtain comes down.

Perfect For: While it feels like a coming of age story that could be owned by youth, the themes of mental health, isolation, acceptance, modern media and love make this a show that anyone can relate to on a human level.

Dear Evan Hansen in Three Words: Captivating. Raw. Moving.

Meet Courtney: Courtney is the PR representative for Broadway Inbound in Australia. Her fist Broadway show was Once, which set the bar high. “Such a gentle and beautiful performance. I still listen to the soundtrack and get a smile on my face thinking back to that night in New York.”
